Tank Cars are a highly specialized fleet of railcars equipped to haul a wide assortment of liquids and gases. Because of the volatile and hazardous characteristics of many of these commodities, tank cars are outfitted with a large number of appurtenances designed to prevent the release of commodity from the car, prevent damage to the car, and facilitate the safe handling of products with corrosive properties.
Of all the major car types, Tank Cars have the most historically stable investment activity. However, the North American tank car fleet is feeling supply/demand pressure across various car types.
