Total rates_072125Broker-posted spot rates in the Truckstop.com system fell for all equipment types during the week ended July 18 (week 28) as is typical for mid-July. After two weeks of declines, dry van spot rates have essentially erased the spike that occurred during the week that included the Independence Day holiday. Refrigerated spot rates fell further after more than offsetting the July 4th week gain during the previous week. Flatbed spot rates decreased to their lowest level since early March.

A week after spot rates for van equipment saw abnormally large increases, they fell much more than usual for the week of the year. Broker-posted spot rates in the Truckstop.com system for dry van and refrigerated equipment plunged during the week ended July 11 (week 27) after huge gains during Independence Day week. Spot rates for both equipment types fell by the most during a comparable week since 2014. A drop in flatbed spot rates matched a week in May for the largest in a week since June 2023.

Spot rates for van equipment typically rise during the week that includes Independence Day, but this year’s mid-year peak resulted in extraordinarily large increases for both dry van and refrigerated rates. During the week ended July 4 (week 26), broker-posted dry van spot rates in the Truckstop system recorded their second largest increase for any week since at least 2008. The increase in refrigerated spot rates was much larger than typical for the week. Flatbed spot rates ticked up slightly.

Broker-posted spot rates in the Truckstop system saw their strongest overall increase in 10 weeks during the week ended June 27 (week 25) as rates rose for all equipment types. The increase for dry van spot rates was the largest in five weeks while the refrigerated spot rate gain was the largest in six weeks. Flatbed rates also ticked up slightly in a week that – in recent years, at least – usually sees lower rates. Solid gains in van equipment spot rates are almost a given during late June.
